The FReSH project develops solutions to drive food system transformation in order to support healthy people on a healthy planet. We take a “fork to farm” approach, starting with the dietary shifts that are required for everybody to eat well, within environmental limits. We develop, implement and scale transformative business solutions aligned with science-based targets.
Food plays a vital economic and cultural role in every society. However, the processes by which societies grow, manufacture, transport, consume and waste food are also driving nutritional, environmental and socioeconomic challenges. It is urgent to transform food from being a cause of global challenges to being an essential tool to address them. While many short-term solutions already exist and simply require scaling, a long-term plan for food reform is essential to creating healthy, enjoyable food for all, produced responsibly within planetary boundaries by 2030.
Businesses are central to food production and consumption patterns worldwide. Through collaboration and innovation, food value chain companies and others can drive positive food system transformation. From a nutrition and health standpoint, food companies must evolve their product portfolios and reformulate foods to increase positive nutrients and reduce negative ones. From an environmental standpoint, ambitious changes in diets and agricultural production practices have the potential to drastically reduce GHG emissions and increase biodiversity.
FReSH is a unique coalition of leading companies across the value chain and beyond, which are collaborating on a pre-competitive to support healthy people on a healthy planet. We are the leading global business initiative developing a series of ambitious, action-oriented solutions aimed at delivering healthy and sustainable diets to all, in alignment with science-based targets.
